In order for students to be successful, there are certain things that they must learn while in each grade. As many topics are cyclical, these concepts need to be taught in a particular order so that they are comprehensible. As educators, we identify what our students need to learn by looking at the standards. Before I began planning each lesson, I located the specific standard I intended to teach. Then, I brainstormed for the most effective ways to illustrate each concept. Additionally, I asked myself if the lessons I planned were developmentally appropriate and would challenge but not overwhelm my students. Finally, I wrote and executed lesson plans that ensured that the instruction was specifically aligned with the state standards.
