2h. Adapts the learning environment to accommodate the differing needs and diversity of students.
There are many factors to consider when determining where a student should be placed in a classroom. In order for a child to be successful in the classroom, they must know that their opinions matter, their voice will be heard, and their concerns will be met. There are some obvious adaptations and accommodations teachers implement. Students who cannot see well are seated closer to the SMART board. Students who struggle to pay attention are seated near the teacher's desk or podium, so they can be frequently redirected. Teachers also take into consideration group dynamics and how well students work together. Then, there are the more complex nuances like proximity to the supplies, restroom, or computer stations. All of these aspects must be considered, and there are times that it seems impossible to meet every students' needs. My mentor and I have rearranged the students' desks a few times during this semester. I firmly believe that our classroom is the least restricted environment for all of our students, and we take every opportunity to facilitate their success in this environment.
