Ambitious Authors Systematic writing instruction should be a part of any quality curriculum. One cannot hope to be truly considered educated until they can read and write about what they have learned. Writing is paramount to nearly all other aspects of education. In order for educators to properly prepare their students, they must teach them to write, write well, and value writing.
I love writing. I always have. It was my escape as a child, and I hope to instill this same love into my students. Writing is incorporated into my classroom in a few different ways. Every Wednesday morning, I create a prompt with a question to pose to our students. Each prompt is designed so that we can learn something about our students. It might be as simple as what their favorite sport is to as influential as who they aspire to be like one day. The prompts are designed to be clear and concise, and the goal is to get our students in the habit of answering questions in complete sentences with appropriate punctuation and capitalization. I love reading what the students write. Even more so, I am ecstatic to see how their skills are progressing. At the start of the school year, my mentor and I received one improperly written sentence or bulleted lists as an answer. Now, we are receiving well thought out answers that show growth. I will definitely be using Writing Prompt Wednesday to bolster writing success in my future classroom. |
