4c. Uses a variety of assessment tools to monitor student progress, achievement and learning gains. A student's success cannot be measured through just one variety of assessment. Students should be challenged to present what they have learned through many different mediums. During my final internship, my mentor and I used several different summative assessment tools. Each week, the students completed a weekly skills check to determine their understanding of the phonics and grammar skills. The students also completed district tests in English Language Arts and Mathematics. These were graded according to a state-provided answer key. During my time in the classroom, the students also completed a writing test which was graded by a rubric as well as a habitat project that was evaluated in a similar fashion. Assessment can be accomplished in so many different ways, and educators must determine when each is most beneficial to their students.
