1c. Design instruction for students to achieve mastery. When an educator plans instruction, they should have their method of assessment in the forefront of their mind. Summative assessment is not often built into every lesson that is taught, but rather each lesson builds on the one from the day before until the student achieves mastery. During my final internship, my mentor and I established a routine for our students in order to yield greater success in the classroom. We would introduce new skills each week (in English Language Arts) and spend all week long reinforcing them. We were able to determine if the students had achieved mastery through the summative assessment that was administered each Friday.
