Reading Shapes Lives!
I have loved reading for as long as I can remember. It was a very important part of my mother's life and my grandmother's life, so subsequently, it became a very important part of mine. Some of my earliest memories are of being read to while I was snug in my bed. Make Way for Ducklings by Robert McCloskey and The Berenstain Bears and The Spooky Old Tree by Stan and Jan Berenstain were weathered and torn from their many readings. As I got older, I devoured any book I could get my hands on. I remember waiting all month long for the next books in The Babysitters Club series to be released and then tearing through them in a day or two. I adored fantasy books. Tales of magic, knights, and dragons swept me away from the monotony of day to day life. To this day, my favorite book is Dealing With Dragons by Patricia C. Wrede; it is the tale of an unconventional princess and the adventures she undergoes while finding herself.
I cannot imagine my life without literature, and it has impacted my educational journey immensely. In fact, I first knew I wanted to be a teacher when I stood up in front of a class and read to them. The spark I saw in those children's eyes inspired me that day and has stayed with me for years to come. Making my students fall in love with reading has always been and will always be one of my biggest priorities. The activities I selected throughout this capstone assignment were all designed with this in mind.

Working with these students on their reading has been a fantastic experience. I am fortunate enough to have a really enthusiastic group of students who want to learn. Ms. Wright has seventeen students whose reading level varying from 0.5 to 4.5. The activities in this reading capstone were designed to engage them, inspire them, and shape them into life long readers.
