3i. Support, encourage, and provide immediate and specific feedback to students to promote student achievement.
Providing students with immediate and specific feedback bolsters their confidence and lets them know that their positive behaviors are noted and appreciated. It is easy to get into the routine of saying "Good job!" or "Way to go!" but praise is most effective when it is targeted to the behavior you want to encourage. Every week my mentor and I leave little notes in dry erase marker on our students' desks. These positive expressions might have to do with their admirable behavior, academic success, or overall improvement in some area. It is obvious by their reactions that our students appreciate this individualized praise. Additionally, when we see students exhibiting positive or desirable behaviors, my mentor and I will often reward our students with Dojo points and make a comment to the class about the student's action.
