2d. Respects students' cultural, linguistic and family background. A student's cultural, linguistic, and family background is an enormous part of what makes them who they are. As educators, we must respect our students' backgrounds and incorporate them into the classroom however we can. In our classroom, our students know that they are respected, loved, and safe. We know that our students' home lives influence everything they do, and we pay homage to that influence through our Family Wall. Each student took a photo with their family at Open House or brought in a treasured memory to share. My mentor and I created this decorative piece as a focal point in our classroom to remind our students that we are, also, a family.
